ADA 10 Under 10: Meet Dr. Yi-Chu Wu
Award honors new dentists for demonstrating excellence
Yi-Chu Wu, D.D.S., of Columbus, Ohio — one of this year’s recipients of the ADA 10 Under 10 Award — did not love dentistry from the get-go. At the beginning of dental school, she only thought of dentistry as a job, but she found her passion after collaborating with her peers and getting involved in her community.
The 2017 graduate of Taipei Medical University in Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Wu is a clinical assistant professor in periodontology at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry and a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She is also involved with a community service project in Columbus, Ohio, that serves a large Asian community and provides more than 500 patients with medical and dental care.
“Throughout the years, I have really received a lot of support, guidance, mentorship and help, and all those I have to give — all my mentors, all my sponsors, all my supporters — a big shoutout and big credits,” she said in a video by the American Dental Association.
The ADA New Dentist Committee chose the recipients of the 10 Under 10 Award for demonstrating excellence and inspiring others in science, research and education; practice excellence; philanthropy; leadership; and advocacy. All 10 awardees are ADA members who graduated from dental school less than 10 years ago. The honorees were announced in March during Elevate in Washington, D.C.
