New York City welcomes new dental school

...

Yeshiva University announced the establishment of the College of Dental Medicine, the first dental school to launch in New York City since 1916.

Accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, the new school will enroll 150 dental students in an accelerated three-year program designed to reduce education-related expenses, provide high-quality training and expand access to oral health care in New York City, according to a news article from Oral Health. Despite the shorter program, students who are accepted into the program will complete the full academic and clinical requirements to receive their D.D.S. — including training in digital imaging and 3D printing as well as hands-on experience in clinical environments at Yeshiva Dental Health.

Leaders of the new dental school hope the program can help address shortages in the dental profession as dentists either retire or change professions and provide more affordable dental care to underserved patient populations.
