Effects of dentin hypersensitivity agents

Investigators may have identified effective long-term dentin desensitizing agents in patients with hypersensitivity.

In a systematic review and meta-analysis published in the Journal of Dentistry, the investigators used the PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and Virtual Health Library Portal databases to examine responses to evaporative, cold or tactile stimuli following the use of dentin desensitizing agents in adult patients.

The investigators found that glutaraldehyde and low-level laser therapy were effective in reducing pain long term; however, adhesive systems and calcium phosphate-based agents were ineffective in managing dentin hypersensitivity.
