Does vitamin K2 improve dental health?

...

Experts detailed the potential dental benefits of incorporating vitamin K2 into the diet.

Vitamin K includes vitamins K1 and K2, according to an article from Prevention. The experts cited in the article noted that vitamin K2 plays a role in bone and cardiovascular health by both regulating the process that helps calcium bind to bones and teeth as well as ensuring that calcium doesn’t build up in the blood vessels.

Because of its critical functions, the experts indicated that a vitamin K deficiency could weaken the connection of the teeth to the jaw bones and lead to bone and enamel loss. Prior research has also demonstrated that the vitamin can help reduce the risk of peripheral artery disease and bone fractures.

Individuals who want to increase their intake of vitamin K2 were encouraged to consume fermented foods, egg yolks, cheeses, butter and chicken rich in vitamin K2 or consider vitamin K2 supplements in some instances. Despite the possible benefits, the experts urged individuals to speak with their health care providers prior to adding supplements to the diet to avoid overusing vitamins or contraindications with anticoagulants.
