AI models in crown generation

A recent study has evaluated the efficacy of using artificial intelligence-based models to enhance prosthetically guided dental implant surgery planning.

In the study, published in the Journal of Dentistry, researchers used 120 intraoral scans from nonpathologic dentitions to train, validate and test three established AI-driven 3D point cloud completion models — PF-Net, PCN and PoinTr — in the generation of anatomically accurate mandibular first molar crowns.

Integration into digital workflows could improve the efficiency, accuracy and consistency of tooth-supported crown planning in restorative dentistry.
