Adequate dental care could minimize tooth loss in Sjögren disease

Oral health issues may be more prevalent among patients with Sjögren disease.

In a systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression published in the Journal of Dentistry, investigators analyzed the burden of oral health issues in 21 studies involving more than 3,700 patients with Sjögren disease and healthy controls.

The investigators found that the patients with Sjögren disease were more likely to experience tooth loss compared with the healthy controls — highlighting the critical role dental professionals play in the detection and management of the condition.

The findings indicated that dental care could help mitigate adverse oral health effects in patients with Sjögren disease.
