Senate passes resolution honoring National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
Organization celebrates 75th anniversary
The U.S. Senate passed a resolution March 20 celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, or NIDCR. The ADA previously endorsed the resolution, which was requested by the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research.
The bipartisan resolution recognizes NIDCR’s “critical role in improving the dental, oral and craniofacial health of the United States through research, training, and the dissemination of health information.”
The resolution was introduced by Sens. Ben Cardin, D-Md., and Mike Braun, R-Ind., and a similar resolution was recently introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Brian Babin, D.D.S., R-Texas.
NIDCR works to advance knowledge about dental, oral and craniofacial health and disease by funding scientific research and sharing findings with the public, health professionals, scientists and policymakers. According to its website, NIDCR’s mission is to “translate these findings into prevention, early detection and treatment strategies that improve overall health for all individuals and communities across the lifespan.”
“NIDCR is a vital, venerable, and essential component of the National Institutes of Health and the overall public health and science strategy of the United States,” the resolution stated.
