SmileCon 2024’s continuing education program features impactful topics of special interest to new dentists, part of the meeting’s New Dentist Experience.

One of those CE courses is Oral Surgery for New Dentists: Hands-on Third Molars, Suturing and Grafting (5205), led by Rachel M. Uppgaard, D.D.S., clinical associate professor and interim school of dentistry public health liaison in the division of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.

Dr. Uppgaard said the Oct. 17 course is tailor-made for new dentists.

“This course is a great opportunity for new dentists who are getting a sense in practice of where their limits are and learning some different tricks and tips on how to address the surgical challenges that they encounter,” she said. “Something as simple as making a change with how you hold a suture needle, visualizing third molars from a new perspective or approaching a membrane differently can make all the difference in the patient's surgery and your day.”

Teresa Duncan, president of the Virginia-based Odyssey Management, will present four courses at SmileCon, including Practice Management Skills for Team Members and New Dentists twice, once on Oct. 17 and the other on Oct. 18.

“Practice management is more than just keeping the schedule full and answering phones,” she said. “New dentists and managers are usually thrown into the deep end of the dental business with little preparation. Many systems should be established, but the bigger issue is knowing how to prioritize these systems to keep the cash flow going and employees engaged.”

The following courses are just a few of the offerings that will help new dentists excel in their careers today and beyond. Explore these courses and more in the Agenda Builder at smilecon2024.eventscribe.net/index.asp.
