Dental students go to Washington

ADA Dentist and Student Lobby Day April 7-9

Student loan reform, dental benefit fees and workforce issues will take center stage during conversations between dental students, dentists and legislators at ADA Dentist and Student Lobby Day. 

The seventh annual event will take place April 7-9, where more than 1,500 dentists and dental students will advocate for their patients and profession at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C. Lobby Day offers attendees the opportunity to learn about issues and policies that affect the country’s oral health through political analysts, subject matter experts and dentists who are working with federal officials to represent the dental industry. 

Some of the issues on the menu this year include the Dental Optometric Access Act, which would prohibit dental and vision plans from setting the fees network doctors may charge for services not covered by the insurers, and the Resident Education Deferred Interest Act and Dental Loan Repayment Assistance Act of 2023, which would provide ways to help offset educational debt for dental and medical residents and faculty. 

Additionally, this year’s Lobby Day will explore the Action for Dental Health Act, which aims to strengthen the oral health workforce by supporting workforce training and oral health programs with the goal of delivering care to underserved communities. 

The event will feature various wellness events, breakout rooms focusing on different issues, networking hubs and Senate meetings.
